Marketing Notes, Week Ending 10/12
Sometimes we get lucky, but for the most part success is hard and it’s very much merit based.
Where did this idea come from that marketing is easy or simply a check-the-box activity?
Here’s the reality, very few of us write like Justin Welsh—quick, smart, quippy, and though-provoking messages in 50 words.
So for the rest of us, lets face reality and accept that bringing in new high-quality clients is hard, and should be hard.
A quick inside look:
I create content for a living. I’m a full-time creator/consultant currently for roughly a dozen advisors/firms. I’m creating on average 50+ pieces of content a week (which includes posts, videos, thumbnails, podcasts, emails, etc., that’s 200+ /month.
Sometimes a single post takes over an hour, sometimes a single video consumes my entire AM, sometimes I can’t get an email right and I’m stuck rewriting it several times.
I take extreme pride in the content that I’m creating on behalf of my clients and ALL of it is created with the intention of it working to attract attention and hopefully generate new conversations.
My point here: If your marketing activity is intended to work, it can take a lot of time to create.
Keep this in mind next time you get discouraged that your post didn’t generate a ton of interest and your video didn’t receive a ton of views… Was it really that good and did you honestly put enough time into it?
Sometimes we get lucky, sometimes we catch moments in time, but for the most part, success is hard and it’s very much merit based.
I hope you have a great week all.
Corey
