Marketing Notes, Week Ending 11/16

If I were trying to grow my business here’s exactly what I’d do:

In last week’s newsletter I highlighted a handful of notes summarizing recent Q’s and A’s: Highlights from Elite Growth-Minded FAs and Firms”

These weekly emails usually generate a few follow-ups:

  • “Thank you”

  • “Good insight, good email”

  • “Thanks for this—helpful”

(thanks for those of you who share your feedback and encouragement!)

Anyway, I got a few of the same note last week: “Thanks for this, but what specifically should I be doing?”

If I were trying to grow my business right now, here’s exactly what I’d do:

Website: Written professionally yet simple—Clear, but conversational:

  • What we do

  • How we do it

  • Who we do it for - describe ideal client

  • Who we are

  • Services offered

  • Cost (fees, in english)

  • Resources (YouTube, Podcast, Social, Email, Blog)

Social: Identify your ideal client, figure out the hierarchy of platforms they spend time on, pick the two that you can execute on, add on from there. This content should convey confidence and expertise. Consistently post/share:

  • Common situations and pain points

  • Who you work with

  • How you solve their problems

  • Static digital images/graphics, short videos, stories

YouTube: Everyone should have a YouTube channel. Include your name in the title. Good headshot icon, banner, about section.

  • Foundational videos: Who, What, Why, How, Ideal client (all of these should be 2 – 5 mins) - remember anything <2 will be turned into a Short, we don’t want that here

  • Shorts: 0:15 – 1:59 clips of you talking directly to the camera or indirectly, topics at this point should be self explanatory

  • Medium - Long videos: These should be produced further, directly or indirectly, of you discussing pain-points, who, what, how, ideal clients, etc.

Newsletter: Weekly, Bi-weekly, Monthly, include both clients and prospects on the same newsletter

  • Questions that are coming up

  • Problems clients and prospects are facing

  • Things you’re seeing / hearing

  • This should be easy to sign-up for, on website and periodically promoted on your socials

  • Don’t overwrite it, rarely are people looking for more than a few hundred words

*The blueprint for all of this is easy, doing it, sticking with it, and doing it well is not.

**If you do this consistently well for 6+ months I truly believe your business will grow

I hope you all have a great week.
