Marketing Notes, Week Ending 5/4

If you put it in the context of business, I hope it can help you think about it differently.

Some notes from my week:

A truly brilliant person can’t be a jerk to others. Because if they’re really that smart and brilliant, they would know they’re an ass, and then choose to not be.

I was asked by a friendly acquaintance recently, former colleague (It was in a friendly manner, but also for some context, he’s asking from a much different perspective. He’s 15+ years in corporate America): “Do you ever feel awkward and judged sharing all of this stuff and putting yourself out there so often, like you’re an influencer or YouTuber?”

It was over text, so I’ll share exactly how I reacted:

Corey

— Dude, seriously?

— Honestly, I couldn’t care less what those guys think about me at this point?

— If they want to judge me or talk shit, go for it

— Who knows what the future holds, so I won’t demonize what they have going on professionally, but I don’t a have a boss, I get to choose who I want to work with, I truly enjoy what I do, and I’ve kind of created the lifestyle I want

I share this because, STILL, I see and hear from many of you that are not marketing the way you know you should, that you know is right, simply because the fear of judgement.

For those feeling that pressure, here’s what I hope you’ll consider: We create great content and share often because it gives us more opportunity at new conversations, which may lead to new business—Not for any other reason.

If you put it in the context of business, I hope you can think about it differently.

Yes, it can be exhausting, yes, you may not have as much time as you’d like to do it, or yes, you might feel the judgement of others in the shadows.

But if you’re being honest with yourself and recognize that this isn’t a high school popularity contest and that you want to grow your business; the more you share the more opportunities you’re giving yourself at growth, period.

Happy Sunday evening, have a great week.

If you found this helpful and have friends, colleagues, or family in financial services that might benefit from reading a few raw marketing notes every week, I'd be thrilled if you shared this with them.

Thanks for reading.

Corey
