Marketing Notes, Week Ending 6/22

This week's theme: Nothing's getting done

The most common theme of the past week was “not-doing.”

The good news is that you’re not alone, it plagues many of you.

The bad news is that nothing’s getting done.

First, what happens: We talk, we ideate, we create a plan, we end our meeting… you then get busy with work, meetings, random business, life, home, kids, etc. Before you know it, it’s late Thursday, or worse Friday and at that point you’re headed toward weekend mode.

Nothing we talked about or planned got done.

Here’s how we fix it: Old fashioned time blocking. Whether you’re doing your marketing on your own, or you have a marketing team or professional helping, typically everything you need to get done is only going to take a few hours. I tell all my current consult clients, block the following 2-3 hours on your calendar after our meetings and while it’s fresh and you’re in the creative frame of mind, this is when to get it done.

For my full content clients, the message is really much of the same. I ask them to block the time on their calendar after our call while it’s fresh. They know what they need to record and this is the time that they knock it out.

But a client of mine or not, I highly recommend that you use some time on Tuesday (or Wednesday) to put a marketing block on your calendar for at least two hours.

I hope you had a great weekend and block your marketing time, you’ll see improvement.
